Snowdrops in My Garden

You lie dormant in the ground,
Are you dead or only sleeping?
Waiting to be wakened once again.
There is a shift in seasons, nature dictates,
That now is your time to wake.

Oh but not for you soft bed of earth;
Warm beneath a faltering ray of sun.
Not a well kept garden is this;
But the struggle for life must go on.

There are weeds that would strangle,
Debris that would crush you,
Overgrowth so thick that light is scarce,
But this does not deter you,
You have sensed a calling,
And up through the earth you emerge.

You are stronger than the trials that face you.
And all this is possible,
oh most delicate of flowers
because of the time you lay dead.

You have an abundance of life,
Stored up within you,
Nurtured by winters cold night,
This will sustain you, this is your strength;
That you die, once more to rise.

You are the first of your kind,
A pioneer – showing the way,
You bring hope that spring will come;
And winter will be chased away.

And as for the debris and weeds?
Well, sometimes life is not a well kept garden,
But one day,
Oh one day it will be so.

There is hope.
Hope for the future.
Hope for the time you are in.
There is beauty to be seen;
Only hope, and wait, and believe.
